Ordering a Custom Mosaic Design
Over the past 19 years we have found that more and more residential customers are requesting custom mosaic tile designs for their pool and/or spa. These customers want to add a personal touch, something that speaks to them and we have delivered many stunning results.
Personal and Corporate Options
Requests range from designs that represent a FAMILY’S NAME, to SPORTS LOGOS, to a variety of COCKTAIL GLASSES, to animals, to NON-POOL APPLICATIONS. Residential customers are not the only ones requesting custom mosaics, there has also been a corresponding increase of the number of Commercial customers requesting custom CORPORATE LOGO designs. Most of those requests are for signage with the companies name or designs depicting their company logo. Corresponding to the increased interest in custom designed mosaics has been an increase in various techniques used for making custom designed mosaics.
The Production Process
The most common technique used for many years has been to start with rolling out the raw clay to the required thickness, air drying, cutting each piece by hand, glazing with a variety of colored glazes and then firing at temperatures approaching 1650 degrees Fahrenheit and then finally assembling each piece onto a mess backing. With the advent of computer controlled waterjet cutting equipment and new techniques of screen printing, custom mosaics can be made quicker and at a lesser cost than the old process. And lastly, a technique that utilizes the latest in high definition image transfer technology has been developed to allow for faithful reproductions in striking full-color clarity, PHOTO MURALS. The image is applied to 6” x 6” tiles which allow for a complete scene to be reproduced including the background. No matter the process used, custom mosaics will take a minimum of 4 weeks to produce.
